WHY SHOULD YOU HIRE A

LICENSED, AND BONDED

CONTRACTOR

IN ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA?

The State of California states that a building permit can only be issued to (1) a licensed contractor, or (2) the property owner. If the property owner requests the permit they become an “owner/builder”. The “owner/builder” takes on all the legal liabilities for the project. These guidelines apply to all contractors in Orange County, California

The legal liabilities of the “owner/builder” include, but may not be limited to, (1) state and federal withholding taxes, (2) required permits, (3) supervising the planning and production phases of your project, (4) worker’s compensation insurance, and (5) scheduling of inspections.

If you do not have the time or expertise to adhere to strict state guidelines for construction projects you should hire a licensed contractor. An individual may not be a licensed contractor even if they are printing advertisements and making claims that they are a contractor. In fact, they may have little experience and no capital backing. Additionally, the individual may not be eligible to be licensed by the State of California to supervise construction projects in Orange County, California.

The Contractors State Licensing Board keeps records on all contractors in all of California. If you hire an unlicensed contractor the State Contractors Licensing Board will not be able to help you with any claims that arise as a result of faulty craftsmanship or damage to your property.
